Glimmers and Sparks…..

I was delighted to run a workshop at the Access in Museums Conference in Leeds in March 25 run by the Accessible Museum Network and GEM. We had a wonderful 2 days hearing about fantastic access initiatives. Inspired by the concept of autistic glimmers, my workshop asked participants to think about what brings them joy. We went on to explore barriers to school attendance and what initiatives and adjustments museums could use to support young people who had that experience, and help them find their spark. If this is something you would like to think about in your museum please get in touch.

We identified some of the barriers that young people are facing when they can’t access school and created a paper wall. The coloured strips of paper are helpful ideas that museums could use to support. They have been woven through the barriers to create ladders.
